Sessions
Teresa Duncan
Behind the Dental Claim: Understanding Plan Design, Adjudication and EDI
From there, we’ll follow claims through the EDI pipeline—practice management system,
clearinghouse, payer front‑end edits, and adjudication engine. You’ll see how code choices and inadequate attachments can trigger rejections or manual review. Upcoming government-mandated EDI changes will affect how you submit claims and attachments in the next two years. Learn the behind-the-scenes of claims processing so you’ll be ready!
We’ll also discuss how to explain the importance of RCM to your team members so they can support you in your efforts.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand why and how payers alter plan designs for employer satisfaction
- Map the life cycle of dental claims from submission to decision, including key EDI
touchpoints - Improve your claims workflows by sending information based on how payers process data

The 6 Numbers Every Dental Practice Must Know by Tomorrow Morning
Many practices look at production but fail to monitor the key revenue cycle metrics that actually determine financial health. This session teaches attendees how to identify, interpret, and act on the six critical numbers that reveal the true health of a practice’s billing systems. Attendees will leave with practical tools to improve collections, reduce aging, strengthen accountability, and create more predictable cash flow without adding more chaos to the team.
Learning Objectives:
- The six KPIs that reveal the health of your billing systems
- How to identify hidden revenue leaks inside adjustments, aging, and denials
- Benchmarks for collections, insurance AR, patient AR, and follow-up
- How to lead productive revenue conversations with your team
- Turning reporting into action instead of overwhelm

Have Them at Hello: How Better Phone Conversations Drive Case Acceptance and Patient Trust
The patient experience doesn’t start in the treatment room—it starts on the first phone call. And in those first few minutes, patients are already deciding if they trust your practice and whether they’re going to move forward with care.
Most patients are calling with just two things on their mind: their insurance and their out-of-pocket cost. How your team handles those conversations—especially early—has a direct impact on case acceptance.
In this session, Laura Nelson will break down why phones are the first and most critical step in the case acceptance process, and how confidence, clarity, and consistency in communication can change everything. She’ll share practical strategies to help teams handle insurance and financial conversations in a way that builds trust instead of confusion.
Laura will also introduce how AI is starting to support the front desk—from ensuring calls are answered to helping keep patients engaged when teams are busy—and why this makes training your team on phone skills more important than ever.
Learning Objectives:
- Create strong first impressions that build trust from the first call
- Confidently guide conversations around insurance and finances
- Keep callers engaged and reduce missed opportunities
- Connect what happens on the phone to better treatment presentation and case acceptance
- Use AI and technology as support—not a replacement—for great communication

Audit Proof Your Practice
This course is a practical, system-focused course designed to help dental teams reduce audit exposure, prevent recoupments, and strengthen claim defensibility—without slowing down production. The session breaks down the 7-stage audit lifecycle (from silent monitoring through final determination) so attendees understand what payers look for, when they look for it, and how small “routine” breakdowns in documentation and billing become high-risk audit findings.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the payer audit lifecycle by identifying key phases from Monitoring through Final Decision
- Recognize and correct the most common documentation-to-payment breakdowns that drive denials and audit vulnerability
- Differentiate what insurers actually adjudicate in a “clean claim” and apply that lens to everyday charting and submission habits
- Conduct a structured internal chart audit using a checklist method that reviews eligibility, clinical notes, imaging, perio data, coding/billing rules, authorizations/consents, claims/payment posting, and credentialing/training elements.
All-Star Panel
All-Star Panel
Join a panel of industry leaders and high-performing dental professionals as they share real-world insights, proven strategies, and lessons learned from driving growth, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the patient experience. Through a moderated discussion and audience Q&A, participants will explore emerging trends, practical solutions to common challenges, and actionable approaches they can implement within their own organizations.
Learning Objectives:
- Apply at least two actionable strategies from the panel discussion to support growth, efficiency, or patient satisfaction within their organization.
- Compare varying leadership and decision-making approaches used by successful organizations to navigate change and drive results.
- Interact! We’ll be taking questions from the audience throughout the day so that you can directly interact with these industry all-stars.

RCM: From On‑Ramp to Checkered Flag
This course takes attendees on a guided “road trip” through the dental revenue cycle—from eligibility verification to final payment—using a driving-themed framework that makes complex RCM systems easy to understand and apply. Designed for both clinical and administrative team members, the course explains how documentation, coding, workflows, and follow-up all connect to claim outcomes. Attendees will learn where claims commonly stall, why denials repeat, and how inconsistent processes lead to aging AR and audit exposure. The course emphasizes role clarity, system discipline, and practical controls that improve reimbursement speed without increasing workload.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the complete life cycle of a dental claim and how breakdowns at any stage delay payment.
- Identify the most common RCM “roadblocks”—including documentation gaps, coding misuse, and contractual obligations—that lead to denials.
- Understand how clinical documentation and administrative workflows must work together to support claim approval.
- Apply a simple, repeatable follow‑up system that reduces aging AR and prevents claims from stalling.
- Recognize early warning signs of audit risk and how strong RCM systems reduce exposure.
