Amber, Office Manager for Monumental Dental Montrose, describes her Colorado practice as “a general family dentistry. We do everything here at this practice from just a simple cleaning to an implant placement.  We cover all prosthodontics. A nonprofit that empowers women in an industry they are helping build

“We started [Women in DSO] as a platform to promote and advance women to leadership positions across the dental industry,” shared Dr. Aman Kaur, Founder and President of Women in DSO.  After working in the DSO space for decades, Dr. Kaur observed the underrepresentation of women in an industry they were helping build.  In fact, the American Dental Association reports that women are becoming the majority in the industry as the percentage of dental school graduates who are women grew from 46% to 50.6% between 2009 and 2019.  

 

I have been very fortunate to be among the lucky few who got to be in C-Suite positions, got to sit in the boardrooms, but what I noticed is that was not the norm. There were many times I was one of two women in the boardroom filled with 10+ men.”  Dr. Kaur knew this issue could not be addressed by simply asking “why,” and in 2020, began paving the way for Women in DSO, a nonprofit organization intended to highlight the women currently leading, managing, directing, supporting, and developing the industry’s most progressive and high-performing dental practice groups.  

 

In an interview with Group Dentistry Now, Dr. Kaur explained, “We have seen growth in the last year. And it’s why the event [2022] felt the way it felt, why it had the attendance it had, it shows there has been a need in the industry. There was a gap.”
